The Making of An Bradán Feasa
Date  of  Completion: August 24, 2006

Initial Sketch

Initial sketch for An Bradán Feasa. Just a halo and a fish.

Sketch (3 hrs)

A few hours further along. Starting to turn the salmon into a zoomorph.

Sketch (9 hrs)

After six more hours, I begin to rethink the spirals a bit.

Sketch (14 hrs)

The final layout emerging, as well as the beginnings of the key pattern.

Sketch (24 hrs)

10 more hours along, and the background is done. Now to finish the salmon himself, and ink.

Final Cartoon

Final inking of pattern, with both cut and blasting lines. I was approaching this as in illumination.

Color/Cut/Etching Guide

Moved to Photoshop to test colors. Four seperate views: the cartoon, the glass alone, with leadlines, and all combined.

Cutting (11 hrs)

The fire backlit, which took and entire evening from sunset to sunrise.

Cutting

99% of the glass for the window cut, but none of the sandblasting.

Sandblasting

Close-up of the sandblasted keys and spirals below the Salmon.

Sandblasting

Wider, reflective view of just the sandblasted pieces.

Sandblasting (backlit)

Backlit view of the sandblasted pieces.

Glass

Wide shot of the entire piece under reflective light.

Etching

Close up of central sandblasting, and the hand-etched markings on the head.

Final Cut (backlit)

Wide shot of the entire window, backlit.

Leading

About to lead the very first piece of glass.

Leading (3 hrs)

A few hours into the leading process.

Leading (9 hrs)

The most detailed leading is done at this point.

Leading (close-up)

A closer view of the head and iridescent halo.

Soldered

I forgot to take more pictures. Here's the Salmon at sunrise, moments after I finished soldering.
